We have set the goal of establishing, together with breeder organizations representing the native breeds of each European Union member state, an international federation –the European Federation of Autochthonous Breed Associations . This umbrella organization represents the interests of the associations uniting breeders of indigenous animal breeds.

The first meeting
The first International Conference of Native Breeders was held in Hortobágy, one of Hungary’s most unique World Heritage sites. Experts, researchers, and breeders gathered from many countries of the European Union to share their experiences and jointly seek solutions to current challenges. The international event, held in May 2026, brought together representatives of associations and organizations from eleven countries. Hortobágy, as one of Europe’s centers of traditional animal husbandry, proved to be a fitting venue for the conference. The pastoral culture preserved here, along with its rich population of indigenous livestock, provides an excellent example of sustainable animal breeding.
